Nurture Yourself - INCENDIES

Instead of fighting the crowds on this long weekend, browse through your cable On Demand to rent one of this year's Academy Award nominees for Best Foreign Language film, INCENDIES.  Based on a French play written by Wajdi Mouawad, it tells the story of a brother and sister (twins) who, after their mother's (Narwal) death, sit down to go over her will and are given two envelopes to deliver to a brother they never knew existed and their father they believed to be dead.  These envelopes take them to the Middle East where they visit various places connected to their mother's past in an attempt to execute her last wishes.  Through the course of their travels, they discover their mother was many things they knew nothing about and ultimately uncover a secret that changes them forever.  Interwoven throughout the film's plot is the tension and violence between Christians and Muslims that Narwal must navigate many times during her young life.  The acting is superb, the cinematography gorgeous, and the story is at once complicated, moving, tragic, and born of love.  Watch the trailer here.
